I thought I would have a little fun and see if anyone can identify this creature I came across on my last holiday – and no it wasn’t in Paignton Zoo or on Bournemouth Beach!!! A few clues – I was standing next to a large man with a large stick and a gun as protection (for me) , it was about six feet long and three to four feet high on its front legs, has no natural predators and is found on only four islands in the world (apart from a few in captivity in zoos – not sure about Paignton though!). The jury is out on how they kill their prey – mainly small deer and the like – it seems that it has recently been established they could inject a venom into their prey like snakes do.
