Hello, I’m Vicky.
I’m Cloud 9’s word nerd and resident biker chick. I’m the copywriter, and (like Benjamin Franklin) I firmly believe that one should either write something worth reading, or do something worth writing, so I try to do both. I love writing, and I’m also a science geek – so I’m particularly good at turning scientific or technical copy into engaging words that a non-techie audience will understand. Outside the office, my other passions (aside from my husband) are shoes, burlesque, cheese, and my Triumph Street Triple motorbike.
What’s your favourite part of your job?
Taking complex information and getting right to the core message. Then turning it into copy that people find useful, relevant and actually enjoy reading. I’m really lucky; I get paid to do something I love.
What do you like least about your job?
The admin. I’m all about writing the words. The grown-up stuff gets in the way.
What keeps you working for Cloud 9?
They’re great. Lovely people, who are talented and actually care about what they’re doing, who they’re doing it for, and why. And the cake.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Too much! In no particular order: rock climbing, circus skills, yoga, pole fitness, running, science, writing, sewing, camping, reading.
What’s your favourite font?
What’s your favourite film?
Depends on my mood. But Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Amélie are always up there in the top five.
What’s your favourite book?
Again, depends on my mood. I love Terry Pratchett, I’ve recently been obsessed with Game of Thrones, and I love To Kill a Mockingbird.
If you could be any animal, what would you be?
A penguin. They’re ace! Graceful in the water and they are their own sledge on land. Plus, they’re cute as a very cute thing indeed.
Where would you love to visit?
Angkor Wat in Cambodia (and then the rest of Cambodia and Vietnam).
Everyone has something insignificant that really winds them up. What’s your pet hate?
Running out of milk when I knew I needed to buy more. I’m powered by tea, you see.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Arguing with homeopaths.
Who would you most like to meet?
Neil deGrasse Tyson and Jocelyn Bell Burnell (geek hero-worship).
